Chayn

Supporting survivors of abuse across borders: Chayn (pronounced ch-en) means “solace” in Urdu. Chayn is a global nonprofit, run by survivors and allies from around the world, creating resources to support the healing of survivors of gender-based violence. They create open, online resources and services for survivors of abuse that are trauma-informed, intersectional, multilingual and feminist.
“We flip the design default, and put the experience of marginalised people at the heart of what we do, opening up access to our resources for all. We work across all forms of gender-based violence, especially domestic and sexual violence, and technology-facilitated abuse. We’ve reached 400,000 people across the globe, and reach more every day.”
On their website, Chayn provides extensive information and resources for survivors of gender-based violence – informed by stories and experiences from survivors – about domestic violence, sexual trauma, financial independence, sexual health, mental wellbeing, and online safety, among others.
In addition to resources for different topics, Chayn provides support for survivors, for instance the “DIY Online Safety Guide – How to prevent and deal with digital abuse” that offers “clear, practical steps to help improve safety, build confidence, and find support”. The “Survivor AI” tool offers support for people, whose images or other data have been shared without consent. It is designed to guide through the process of effectively taking down the non-consenually shared content by writing a tailored takedown request to the platform in question.
